Eswatini Air is making a bold play for regional dominance, announcing that it will launch flights to Lusaka, Zambia, starting April 1.
The move signals the ambitious carrier’s intent to strengthen its footprint in Southern Africa, connecting the Kingdom of Eswatini to yet another key economic hub.
The airline will operate the route twice weekly, utilizing a 50-seat Embraer E145.
However, in a strategic twist to maximize efficiency, the service will initially run on a triangular basis, operating as an extension of the airline’s existing route to Harare, Zimbabwe.
This allows the carrier to test the waters of the Zambian market while maintaining strong connectivity between Lusaka and Harare.
If the demand curve ticks upward as expected, Eswatini Air has signaled it will move quickly to upgrade the service to dedicated nonstop flights and increase weekly frequencies.
“This is a calculated step in our growth strategy,” an airline representative stated regarding the expansion. “Lusaka is a vibrant market, and we are confident that the demand for reliable, efficient travel between our capital and Zambia will justify a rapid transition to a more robust schedule.”
The launch adds Zambia to a growing regional network that already includes daily services to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, as well as regular flights to Durban King Shaka and Cape Town International.
With this expansion, Eswatini Air is positioning itself as a serious contender in the fight for regional air travel, directly challenging larger carriers on one of Africa’s most critical travel corridors.
