FQM Trident Celebrates World MSME Day by Empowering Local Businesses Through Supplier Development

In commemoration of World MSME Day 2026, celebrated on 27th June under the theme “Formalize, Finance, Flourish: Building a Resilient Zambian Economy,” FQM Trident, through Trident Foundation Limited (TFL), in partnership with Prospero Zambia and the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), hosted the Kalumbila MSME Capacity Building Event – Mutentamo wa Busulu through the Kalumbila Business Incubation Centre.

The two-day event attracted over 300 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), providing a one-stop platform where entrepreneurs accessed business development services designed to formalize, strengthen and grow their businesses.

The event brought together key business support institutions, enabling entrepreneurs to access essential services including business registration, tax education, smart invoicing, social security compliance, workers’ compensation, financial services and investment opportunities. Participating institutions included PACRA, Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board, Musele Chiefdom Business Association, Kalumbila Chamber of Commerce and Industry, financial institutions, and several other business development partners.

As part of the programme, participants attended practical Master Classes facilitated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Zanaco and TFL Commercial Team. The sessions equipped local businesses with practical knowledge on:

* Accessing finance through capital markets, commercial loans and other funding avenues.

* Understanding procurement principles, supplier requirements and tendering processes to improve their readiness to compete for opportunities within the mining sector.

This initiative forms part of FQM Trident Limited’s Supplier Development Programme (SDP), which is designed to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of local suppliers participating in the mining value chain.

The programme supports the implementation of Zambia’s Local Content Regulations (Statutory Instrument No. 68) under the Mines and Minerals Development Act by preparing local businesses to meet industry standards and participate meaningfully in mine procurement opportunities.
