Connectivity changing classroom in Zambia

Digital learning is steadily transforming education in Zambia, with learners and teachers at St. Monica’s Secondary School in Matero showcasing how internet connectivity is improving classroom experiences.

During a visit to the school, UNICEF Zambia, the Ministry of Education, and Airtel Zambia hosted Airtel Africa Group CEO Sunil Taldar, who witnessed firsthand how the Digital Learning and School Connectivity Programme is helping expand access to quality education.

Learners demonstrated the use of digital learning tools, while teachers highlighted how reliable connectivity is making lessons more interactive and inclusive.

Airtel Africa says its partnership with UNICEF is focused on providing digital infrastructure that enables children, especially in areas with limited physical resources, to access learning online.

UNICEF Zambia described the initiative as a key step toward closing the digital divide and ensuring every child has equal opportunities to learn regardless of location.

School authorities also reported improved learning outcomes through the use of the Learning Portal, while the Ministry of Education emphasized that connected schools provide learners with access to valuable educational resources, easing the burden on families that cannot always afford textbooks.

The partnership between UNICEF, the Ministry of Education, and Airtel Zambia continues to strengthen digital education, creating greater opportunities for learners across the country.
