Absa Bank Zambia Managing Director Mizinga Melu says rising customer confidence reflects growing trust in the country’s ongoing economic reforms and production-led recovery.
“There is a lot of positive sentiment that we are seeing from our customers. It is about continuity more than anything else,” Melu said when she paid a courtesy call on Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane in Lusaka.
In a statement, Melu said the private sector had taken keen interest in the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda, particularly its emphasis on scaling up production, exports, investment, and employment while maintaining the economic stability achieved in recent years.
She commended Dr. Musokotwane for clearly outlining the Government’s growth strategy during his television interview on Sunday, adding that the engagement had helped businesses better understand the direction being taken by the leadership.
“You articulated the growth agenda very well. You brought all of us to understand the approach that you are taking, and we are really excited about that,” Melu noted.
She cited the mining sector as one area where previously ambitious production objectives were increasingly becoming tangible, particularly Zambia’s drive toward three million tons of annual copper production adding that expectations of reaching about one million tons represented an important milestone toward the longer-term three-million-ton objective.
The ABSA Managing Director also praised the Government’s 2026 bond buyback, describing the transaction as an example of financial innovation that had caught positive market attention.
“I think that was unprecedented. People did not see that coming,” she said, adding, “That type of innovation is what we are excited about as you begin your new term. We are really anticipating a lot of innovation and creativity.”
