2,000+ Teachers descend on Laka Bangwelulu for Teachers marathon

More than 2,000 teachers from across Zambia have gathered on the scenic shores of Lake Bangweulu in Samfya District for the Luapula Expo and Teachers Marathon.

The event, organised by Toursport, has brought teachers together for a unique blend of sport, interaction and celebration as the country prepares to commemorate Teachers’ Day on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The colourful gathering was officially opened on Friday by Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Mrs. Prudence Chinama-Kangwa, who was joined by Samfya District Commissioner Mr. Chola Kanonka, Ministry of Education Director-Human Resource Ms. Phyllis Kachusha, senior government officials and cooperating partners.

Teachers from various parts of the country are taking part in the marathon and other activities lined up under the expo, turning the Lake Bangweulu waterfront into a hive of activity.

The event is providing a platform for teachers to interact, promote physical fitness and celebrate their profession ahead of the national Teachers’ Day commemorations.

With the picturesque Lake Bangweulu providing the backdrop, the gathering has also offered participants an opportunity to experience the beauty and hospitality of Samfya while connecting with fellow educators from different parts of Zambia.
