ZMA, CCPC & ZARI Team Up to Inspect Fertiliser Ahead of 2026 Farming Season

The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA), working together with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI), has conducted a joint inspection of fertiliser at United Capital Fertilizer Limited ahead of the 2026 distribution of farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

The inspection is aimed at protecting farmers and ensuring that agricultural inputs supplied on the market meet the required standards in terms of quality, quantity and labelling.

During the exercise, ZMA inspected the net contents and labelling of fertiliser to establish whether the quantities declared on the packaging correspond with the actual quantities supplied.

The Agency also inspected automatic packing machines to verify that they are properly verified and capable of accurately dispensing the quantities indicated on fertiliser packages.

ZMA says accurate measurement is critical in protecting farmers from receiving less than what they are entitled to, while also helping manufacturers and suppliers avoid losses associated with under-packing or over-packing.

The joint inspection further highlights the importance of collaboration among regulatory institutions in promoting fair trade, consumer protection and confidence in agricultural inputs.

As Zambia prepares for the 2026 farming season, ZMA, CCPC and ZARI say coordinated regulatory efforts remain key to ensuring that farmers receive quality inputs and value for their money.
