Burkina Faso Breaks Gold Production Record: 94 Tonnes Mined in 2025!

Burkina Faso’s mining sector delivered a historic performance in 2025, with national gold output reaching 94 tonnes, a spectacular rise of more than 30 tonnes compared with the previous year. The milestone was confirmed by the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, underscoring the strongest production level in the country’s history.

The production surge reflects the effects of sovereignty-oriented mining reforms, including the operationalisation of the Société de Participation Minière du Burkina Faso (SOPAMIB) and tighter oversight of 15 active industrial mines. Notably, the artisanal mining sector contributed around 42 tonnes of the total output, demonstrating the impact of formalisation and regulatory improvements on smaller-scale operations.

Beyond mining, the government also advanced energy and infrastructure goals in 2025 expanding electrification to rural areas and improving transport networks. Looking ahead, officials aim to sustain momentum in 2026 with institutional reforms and expanded local ownership in mining projects, positioning gold as a cornerstone of economic growth and national sovereignty.
