In the early morning hours in Kalumbila town’s lush forests, a lively and spirited team comprising athletes, cyclists, and soccer players ignited the Kalumbila Challenge 2025 through shared enthusiasm, wellness, and cultural celebration.

“This year, we are proud to host over 1,500 participants from northwestern province, but also beyond making the Kalumbila challenge one of the largest community sports in the region. We are proud to see so many of you here coming together for this special occasion,” said FQM Trident Limited General Manager Scott Whitehead.

Whitehead urged participants to enjoy the event in the true spirit of fun, fitness and togetherness.

He further paid glowing tribute to sponsors who have contributed very generously towards this year’s event adding to their attachment and love for the Kalumbila community.

“I wish all participants the very best, and I encourage everyone to enjoy this day in the true spirit of fun, fitness and togetherness. Welcome once again, and let the Kalumbila Challenge begin.”

Officiating at the colorful event, Kalumbila Council Chairperson Shadreck Munjunga said the Kalumbila challenge is an opportunity for sports fanatics to come together, celebrate achievements, push boundaries and foster connections that drive progress.

He further acknowledged that Kalumbira District is blessed with rich resources, dynamic people and the commitment to growth.

“Let’s make the most out of this Kalumbila Challenge to be a success. Thank you for being part of this endeavor. Let’s make it a remarkable experience for all involved. Welcome to Kalumbila and welcome to the Kalumbila challenge 2025!” Munjunga said.

“We spotlight the best of what we have and aspirations we share for a brighter future of Kalumbila district. I encourage everyone to fully embrace the spirit of healthy Competition and collaboration.”

As the air fills with the rising chorus of birdsong, this year’s event has reverberated a symphony of anticipation woven into a tapestry of shared enthusiasm. With each movement precise and purposeful, some dedicated athletes warms-up, already tuned to the challenge ahead.

“I am equal to the task and I am itching to carry the day,” declared Kelvin Chisengo, a local athlete as he stretched deliberately, each movement precise and purposeful.

Chisengo is upbeat that despite various sporting disciplines, participants’ purpose is the same: to challenge themselves, to celebrate physical wellness, and to enforce a lively camaraderie in a bid to enjoy the journey together.

A little further on, the cyclists are awakened by the natural sounds of the awakening Miombo forest in anticipation of the wind rushing past their faces and the rhythm of pedals turning beneath their bikes.

Then on the football pitch at Trident Stadium, soccer players inject an infectious, spirited energy among a horde of soccer fans cheering them on. Chess players equally engage in nail-biting games and last but not the least, a special category for persons with disabilities fully participated in a bid to promote accessibility and inclusivity.

As the sun finally breaks above the distant tree line, painting the sky in fiery oranges and soft purples, a new element enters the event, a subtle yet powerful reminder of the cultural celebration embedded within the Kalumbila Challenge unveils a connection to the land, its people, and its traditions.

The Kalumbila Challenge is indeed more than just a tournament but a communion of nature, sport, community, and the vibrant spirit of Zambia – all poised on the brink of a new day and an unforgettable challenge.
