MTN Ignites Digital Innovation: ICT Connect Expo Showcases Future-Ready Partnerships

By John Chola

MTN Zambia has unveiled the ICT Connect Expo, a dynamic two-day showcase of cutting-edge technologies and collaborative innovation, reaffirming its position as a driving force in Zambia’s digital transformation journey.

The Expo, held at Levy Mall in Lusaka as part of MTN’s 20th anniversary celebrations, brings together enterprise customers, government stakeholders, SMEs, and tech innovators to explore digital solutions shaping the future of business in Zambia and across Africa.

Speaking when officially opening the Expo Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati represented by Ministry Director for Science and Technology Dr. Larry Mweetwa commended MTN Zambia for being a consistent ally in the government’s digitalization drive.

“As Government, we recognize that information and communication technology remains a key enabler of economic transformation and job creation,” Mutati said.

“Platforms like the ICT Connect Expo demonstrate the private sector’s commitment to advancing our national digital agenda. Through innovation and collaboration, we are steadily moving Zambia toward a competitive digital economy that benefits all citizens.”

Mutati further noted that MTN’s 20-year milestone underscored a solid record of investment in infrastructure, innovation, and inclusive connectivity — pillars that align with the government’s Smart Zambia and Digital Transformation strategies.

Partnerships Powering the Digital Future

MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer Mr. Abbad Reda said the ICT Connect Expo reflects MTN’s vision to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress by fostering partnerships that empower businesses and communities.

“The ICT Connect Expo provides a platform for enterprise customers, government, SMEs, and industry innovators to engage, showcase solutions, and build partnerships that will drive the next wave of digital growth,” Mr. Reda said.

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure everyone benefits from a modern, connected life. We remain committed to supporting Zambia’s bold digital transformation agenda.”

Mr. Reda highlighted that MTN’s investments over the past two decades have gone beyond network expansion to building ecosystems that enable businesses to operate smarter, faster, and more securely.

MTN’s Digital Evolution

MTN Zambia Enterprise Business Unit General Manager Ms. Mildred Chica emphasized the company’s evolution from a mobile service provider into a trusted digital transformation partner.

“When MTN Business first began, our mission was simple — to connect people and businesses through reliable communication. Today, we are empowering enterprises with cutting-edge technologies that help them operate efficiently and competitively,” she said.

“At the heart of our success lies one key ingredient — partnerships. Innovation thrives where collaboration exists, and our partners’ commitment to adopting emerging technologies keeps MTN at the forefront of digital innovation.”

Among the digital solutions showcased are MTN’s Fleet Management Systems, Enterprise Self-Service Platforms, Cloud and Communication Solutions, and a wide range of ICT and connectivity services aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency.

Driving Zambia’s Digital Ambition

The Expo underscores MTN’s commitment to building a digitally connected Zambia, where technology serves as a bridge to economic opportunity and sustainable growth.

Minister Mutati reaffirmed that government will continue creating an enabling policy environment for the private sector to innovate, invest, and expand access to digital services.

“The Ministry of Technology and Science remains steadfast in its partnership with the private sector. Through collaboration with companies like MTN, Zambia will continue unlocking the potential of ICT as a tool for inclusive development,” he said.

As the Expo opened to hundreds of visitors, interactive demos and partner exhibits illustrated how digital transformation is revolutionizing sectors such as finance, transport, education, and manufacturing.

Celebrating 20 Years of Connection and Innovation

Since entering the Zambian market in 2005, MTN has evolved into the country’s most preferred and innovative telecommunications network, with a footprint covering all 10 provinces through 4G, 3G, and 2G connectivity.

Through initiatives like the ICT Connect Expo, MTN continues to leverage its two-decade legacy of empowering communities, uplifting lives, and enabling businesses to thrive in a digital world.

“As we celebrate 20 years in Zambia,” Mr. Reda concluded, “we are not just looking back at how far we’ve come — we’re looking ahead at how much further we can go by connecting innovation to opportunity.”
