Proflight rollout cashless payments

By Derrick Silimina

As Zambia advances towards a modern, digitally enabled economy, businesses across key sectors are rethinking how they deliver services, improve efficiency and build trust with consumers.

In a statement, Proflight Zambia said its rollout of cashless payments, introduced in November 2025, represents more than a service upgrade but also reflects a deliberate move towards safer, faster and more efficient transactions while supporting Zambia’s broader transition to a cashless economy.

“Going cashless strengthens the airline’s operations, enhances service excellence, and maintains a secure operating environment. At the same time, our customers enjoy greater convenience when paying for flights and services, via card payments, as well as mobile money platforms, bank deposits, and other approved digital options,” said Proflight Zambia Director of Flight Operations Captain Josias Walubita.

Walubita said in aviation – where safety, precision, and time are paramount, digital transformation is no longer optional; it is essential.

He noted that the initiative also highlights the airline’s role in supporting Zambia’s evolving financial ecosystem adding that as digital payments become increasingly embedded in everyday life, from mobile money to card-based transactions – aviation must keep pace with customer expectations and regional standards.

“The move to cashless payments complements a wider strategy centred on innovation, service excellence, and governance. It sits alongside ongoing network expansion, industry recognition, and adherence to globally recognised aviation standards,” added Captain Walubita.

He stressed that by enabling passengers to pay for services using digital methods, the airline streamlines operations, enhances security, reduces fraud risks, and delivers a faster, more seamless experience.

Captain Walubita noted that the initiative also aligns with the Bank of Zambia’s policy to promote a cashless economy, as well as international best practices in the aviation and travel industry.

“The result is a smoother journey for passengers, with quicker service delivery and reduced administrative complexity. In an industry built on connectivity, Proflight Zambia’s cashless transition demonstrates how aviation can act as a catalyst for economic modernisation – linking people, markets, and ideas through systems that are efficient, secure, and future-ready.”
