MTN MoMo Expands Digital Payments Through Stanbic Bank Partnership

By John Chola

MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) customers can now use their mobile wallets to pay for goods and services on Stanbic Bank Point of Sale (POS) machines across Zambia, following a new partnership aimed at making cashless payments more accessible.

The integration makes Stanbic Bank the latest financial institution to accept MoMo payments on its POS network, joining other banks already connected to the service.

This gives MTN MoMo the widest acceptance on bank POS machines in Zambia.

Customers can now pay directly from their MoMo wallets by authorising transactions on their mobile phones, while merchants receive instant confirmation on POS terminals.

Speaking during the launch, MTN MoMo Head of Strategy and Business Development, Pafyako Malema-Museba, said the partnership is another important step towards increasing financial inclusion and promoting a cash-lite economy.

She said the growing network of partner banks is making it easier for customers to use MoMo wherever they shop while helping businesses serve customers more efficiently.

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between MTN MoMo and Stanbic Bank, which already supports wallet-to-bank transfers and provides liquidity services to more than 150,000 MoMo agents nationwide.

With over 250,000 merchants already accepting MoMo payments, the company says the latest integration will further expand payment options for customers and businesses.

Stanbic Bank Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Helen Lubamba, said the move will help businesses reach more customers while supporting Zambia’s transition towards a more inclusive digital economy.

For businesses, the service offers faster payments, reduced cash handling and access to millions of MoMo users.

For consumers, it provides a secure and convenient way to pay using their mobile phones instead of cash.

The launch reflects Zambia’s growing shift towards digital financial services as banks and mobile money operators work together to make payments faster, safer and more convenient for citizens across the country.

This version is more concise, uses simpler language, and is easier for readers across Zambia to absorb while preserving the key business significance of the development.
