The Joint Tourism Technical Committee (JTTC) aimed at reinforcing collaboration on tourism development between Zambia and Malawi has kicked off in Lilongwe, Malawi.

This is in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation signed in 2018, between the two countries.

The team from Zambia comprises representatives from the departments of Tourism, National Parks and Wildlife, Culture and Traditional Affairs and Planning and Information, as well National Heritage Conservation Commission, Zambia Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Studies; and Zambia Tourism Agency.

Speaking during the opening the inaugural JTTC at Bingu International Convention Centre, Dr. Charles Mweshi who is the Co –chairperson noted that the JTTC serves as the principal technical framework for coordinating, monitoring and implementing mutually agreed upon bilateral tourism initiatives for both countries.

Dr. Mweshi said that the responsibility of this committee was to translate policy commitments into practical programes that deliver tangible benefits to both countries.

He reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to implementing all agreed decisions and strengthening bilateral cooperation adding that through sustained collaboration, the two countries would unlock new opportunities for tourism growth, investment, employment creation, cultural exchange and regional integration.

Dr. Mweshi added that the committee would also ensure alignment of bilateral initiatives with national policies, regional frameworks and international best practices, while promoting sustainable tourism development, capacity building and collaborative marketing efforts.

And The Malawaian Co-Chairperson Dr. Noah Nansongole noted that Zambia and Malawi share and continue to enjoy warm and cordial diplomatic relationship beyond sharing borders hence the shared interest in accelerating tourism development tourism in both countries.

He disclosed that this meeting also follows a previous bilateral dialogue on the sidelines of the 2026 Africa Travel Indaba in Durban in May, 2026 and in June, 2026 on the sidelines of the Zambia Travel Expo, where the decision to operationalise the MoU through the establishment of the JTTC was reached.
